It’s easy to get discouraged when you look around you. Have you ever looked at other people and thought “How is everyone else winning and I’m not?” The truth is when you look around and see these things, you aren’t seeing the full picture. Many people struggle and you never see it, because when you look at Facebook or Instagram, you’re only seeing the highlights. The truth is many people-even higher income people-are up against the wall financially and may have other problems as well.
I am the son of parents who never even graduated high school. Many would say it’s game over from that alone. To be honest, not having a high school diploma does make success harder to achieve, but not impossible. We grew up in a small house in the middle of nowhere-Bluff City, Arkansas(the population is about 100 today......maybe.) What right did any of us have to think we could ever amount to much of anything?
My parents kept an optimistic mindset and with hard work and determination over the years, they were able to move out of that small house. They also pushed all of us kids to do well and now they have four children who are college graduates.
Now, I don’t write this to devalue finishing high school. In fact, I strongly suggest that everyone do so. However, no matter where you are starting from, you can make it in this life. Do not let the person you have been stop you from growing into what you can become. Even if it seems like you can never become much of anything, live as if one day you will be successful so that you are prepared for any possibilities that come your way. Do not look around at what other people have and let that determine your status. As I’ve stated, it's not always as pretty as it looks.
