Contentment, An Essential Financial Tool

Updated: Jun 2, 2021

There is no denying that we live in a consumer market. We are constantly bombarded with commercials telling us to buy the latest and greatest cars, phones, clothes, and much more. You can’t blame someone for being tempted to spend when there are so many appealing things for sale around us. In no time, the material things we have are behind the times. Furthermore, there are so many people who have the new toys. This makes it easy to get the fever to spend money on a myriad of new things. When you start the journey of financial peace, one thing you will discover is that you will have to develop a sense of contentment.

Contentment is one of the most important tools you will ever use to live a life of prosperity. Unfortunately many people’s ability to build wealth is diminished in an effort to purchase material things .If you try to keep up with the Joneses, you will be broke. Work on being content with what you have.

That ten year old car that starts up every time you hit the switch and gets you places you need to be is enough. Sure, it would be nice to have a shiny new truck, but you don’t NEED it, especially if it is robbing you and those who come after you of life-changing wealth. Your old i-phone is fine. It may not have the newest camera, but it has more capability than full-blown computers used to have.

It is about perspective. We don’t realize that if we live in a first world country, we are often spoiled. There are plenty of people who would trade places, that's for sure. You don’t have a problem if your old truck doesn’t have the new fancy tailgate or if your phone doesn’t have ten cameras on it.

This is not to insinuate that you cannot have nice things and manage your finances well at the same time. There is nothing wrong with having nice things.Just don’t let nice things have you! Challenge yourself to be content with what you have. This alone will remove stress from your life and best position you to go forward and run your race.
